I wish I was back in pottery classes.

I haven’t completed anything since the last on that ended April 1st, and it’s so annoying having ideas and no outlet.

Plus it makes this blog really dead.:/

fascinare:

These little gem of an Etsy shop has a wonderful collection of hand made rustic kitchen and home delights. Visit Just Potters if you are slightly addicted to jugs, bowls and most other house hold vessels.

bonatirer:

London-based ceramist Tamsin Van Essen has designed a collection of vases influenced from 17th century dutch vanitas paintings, capturing the moment of decay. The deterioration detail from the vessels are expressed through reference of the decline in beauty. By using an etching tool to remove material from the slip cast porcelain forms and a sandblaster in its bisqued state, the decoration becomes part of the ceramic structure. during the last kiln firing, areas of the vases begin to peel, representing points of decay.

purplestoneware reblogged your post: Yesterday I went with my mom to this Japanese mans…

can be fired midfire as well. :) Also, that sounds like such…fantastic experience!!!

Yeah, haha, I know it can, I used to fire my cone 10 clay at midfire, but once I started a class my teacher started advising me against it.

Mainly because I make functional pieces and it doesn’t really become “food safe” at the lower temperatures, because the clay is still slightly porous. Also the glazes don’t match as well(I think at least^^).

But it’s not bothering me as much anymore, and I’m planning to do some in midrange soon on my porcelain.c:

It was fantastic! (sorry, I know this was probably late, I don’t get on this blog very frequently^^)

I might have more work to show you soon!

My parents manage a Japanese restaurant in Nashville and my mom met a customer who enjoys pottery, and he invited us out to his place in the country. So we spent quite a while over there today, trading turns for the wheel.

The only unpleasant thing was the wheel only spun counter clockwise, (the wrong way for me) but the guy was so unsympathetic I felt like I had to prove I could throw well both ways, and HAHA, I DID!

I only threw a few things, but it was a nice place and we had a nice time. I made a cup, a bowl and a pitcher, and while I’m content with the first two, the pitcher almost had an ‘accident’ because I don’t like how the handle turned out.

So! Depending on our visits there, you may see some new pieces from me soon.:D
